Our immediate Past President, Dato' Satinah Syed Saleh was appointed as the Advisor for the Malaysian Association for Education ( MAE) in the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) held on 24th August 2024.
Dato' Satinah currently is the Director for Melewar Learning Resources/Direct English; the Managing Director for Alpha Alsagoff Edu Resources Sdn. Bhd - an education advisory & consulting company she set up in 2011. She is a member of the Board of Governors for the British International School Kuala Lumpur (owned by Nord Anglia, United Kingdom); and a Consultant to UBSM (University Book Store (M) Sdn Bhd - Training and Consulting.
Dato' Satinah graduated from the University of Malaya (Sociology & Anthropology) & Diploma in Education; Master of Science degree from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. She attended short courses on Educational Policy Analysis (Harvard University USA), and on Project Management (Australian National University).
She was a former secondary school teacher, lecturer and senior official at the Ministry of Education. She served the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia at the Polytechnics and Community Colleges Department; and as the Director of Education Malaysia, in New Zealand.
Some of her pertinent responsibilities at the National level (in education) include being the Secretary (II) to the National Committee in drafting the Education Act 1996; the Deputy Lab Leader (Education) during the conception of the Economic Transformation Programme (2010); and the Head of Project Management Office, Ministry of Education (Phase 1) in reviewing the Malaysian Education System in 2012, which culminated with the ‘Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025’. She was the Director at The Private Education Division, Ministry of Education Malaysia prior to her retirement.
Dato' Satinah was the former Member for the National Education Advisory Council (NEAC) Ministry of Education Malaysia (August 2018 – July 2020); former Board Member for Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and for UPSI Holdings Sdn. Bhd for almost 3 years. She was the Education Consultant & Advisor for Khazanah Nasional Berhad for 7 years (May 2012- May 2019; and was a Member of Board of Governors, St. John International School for over 7 years. She was the Chairperson for all the National group of Schools, and member of the Board of Governors to the International Schools at Tenby Group of Schools, and the Asia Pacific Schools, all owned by the International Schools Partnership Limited, United Kingdom (ISP) for 5 years. She was also a former Trustee for Vijayaratnam Foundation/ RHYTHM Foundation for 2 years; and an Independent Director to REAL Education Group (2011- 2016).
She is currently the Deputy President for Malaysian Children’s Aid Society (MACAS), and a member of Harvard Alumni. She was the President of the ‘Malaysian Association for Education’ (MAE) from 2020 to 2024, and currently she is appointed as the Advisor to the Association. She was the Senior Advisor for Education Transformation under the Empowered Individuals pillar of work at Impact Hub KL on matters related to the ‘Design For Change’ programs and other education innovation activities for over 4 years. She was one of the panel writer for ‘History for Nation Building’ selected articles from the forum ‘The Study of History: Its Relevance and Significance’. She contributes ideas and views in educational policy and development via conferences, seminars, roundtable discussions and forum locally and internationally.
