President
Dato' Dr Mohd Majid Konting was appointed as the President for the Malaysian Association for Education ( MAE) in the Biennial General Meeting (BGM) held on 24th August 2024.
Dato' Dr. Mohd. Majid Konting is a former Professor of Education at the Department of Foundations of Education, Faculty of Educational Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He was the director of the Centre for Academic Development (CADe), UPM before retiring in 2017. Prior to that, he was seconded to the Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia as its 3rd Director (2013-2015) and its first Deputy Director (Teaching and Learning) (2009-2013). He was also the Director (2008-2009) and Deputy Director (Policy and Quality) of CADe (2006-2008), the Deputy Dean (Academic and International) (2005-2006), the Head of Department, Foundations of Education, and the Director, Centre for Education Policy Research (2002-2005), UPM.
Dato' Dr. Mohd. Majid’s interests, research, teaching and expertise lie in the field of educational policy, research and evaluation, learning and teaching, assessment, leadership as well as teacher education. He has graduated 18 doctoral and 36 Master of Science students by research. He has conducted more than 75 research projects - 38 of which as a principal researcher. Many of his research findings have been used as a basis for the formulation of educational policies and initiatives such as the MSC-Dengkil Smart School Project and the Global School Network (1996), the recipient of the Washington Symphony’s International High Notes in Education Award for the year 2000, in the development of the Malaysian Smart Schools Project in 1998 as well as the development of Smart Education in East Asian countries such as in South Korea, Japan, and China in 1998; the higher order thinking skills (HOTs) in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 (Preschool to Post-Secondary Education); the transformation of all Malaysian higher learning institutions’ curricula based on the learning outcomes in 2007; the development of soft skills initiatives in Malaysian higher education institutions and the Malaysian Soft Skills Scale (My3S) in 2007; as well as the Leadership Development in Higher Education Learning and Teaching Framework and its 17 training modules in 2009. He was a committee member in formulating the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education).
He had authored and co-authored 47 ISI/Thomson/Scopus journal articles, 29 books and book chapters, 55 teaching modules, six monographs, and 45 academic article proceedings. Among higher education text books authored by him is “Kaedah Penyelidikan Pendidikan” (Methods in Educational Research) (DBP, 1990) which has been reprinted 9 times. He has presented 398 papers, mainly as keynotes and invited papers and has conducted 172 training sessions. He was a Malaysian national master trainer of higher education learning outcomes and soft skills initiatives.
Dato' Dr. Mohd. Majid was also involved and held official positions in many committees, boards and professional associations such as the Chairman, Critical Agenda Project on Leadership in Higher Education, a member of the Ministerial Committee on Malaysia Education Blueprint (Higher Education), the National e-Learning Committee, the National Academic Awards Steering Committee, Global Forum on Executive Development and Business Driven Action Learning, Board of Governance, Universiti Sains Malaysia, a member of the International Statistical Association, National Professor Council (Education and Human Capital Development Cluster), Academy of Professors Malaysia, Malaysian Association for Education (MAE), Malaysia Education Research Association (MERA) as well as Association of Vocational and Technical Education of Malaysia (AVTEM). He is a life member of MAE since 1985, MAE Council Member since 1997, MAE Deputy President 1 since 2020, and currently the MAE President since August 2024.
